Celtic Deer Goddess Rattle

In the Celtic tradition the deer, among other animals, was held in high regard. The Celtic goddess Brigid was said to have been fed with milk from the “other world” that was given to her from a deer. Ancient Celtic myth says that milk from the other world is deer milk brought by fairies.
It was with this in mind that I created this rattle.

Celtic Spiral:Represents life, death and re-birth. it also represents the ethereal energy that radiates out and back again in a never ending dance.

Celtic Deer{From the book"By Oak, Ash, & Thorn" by D.J. Conway):Deer (Fiadh) In its form of the White Doe or White Stag, the deer was often a messenger and guide from the Otherworlds. Following such an animal led the unsuspecting human into contact with supernatural beings. The antlered headdress of Cernunnos may have been copied by Celtic shamans as apparel in their rituals. The deer represents keen scent, grace swiftness, and gentleness.

In Celtic myth the apple is also the tree of Life and upholder of the Worlds above and below. In many Irish tales, it grows upon an otherworld island and bears the fruit of immortality which emits a heavenly fragrance, which is able to satisfy all hunger, heal all ills, and yet always remains whole.

Rowan berries:Sometimes referred to as “the whispering tree,” the rowan was well known is among the Celts as a tree of the Goddess and to be sacred among the faeries. Its berry is shaped like a five-pointed star, which is known as a symbol of magical protection.

Corn:Since ancient times corn {maize}has been held as being most sacred and represents the goddess of fertility. To the ancient Mayan each kernel of corn was considered sacred and not to be wasted. This was because they believed that corn not only contains the power to sustain us, but also represents the cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth.
